Hi, I’m Lea Preiss, founder of myhelper. In 2007 I moved with my family to Munich in Germany for a year. Although I settled fairly well, I found that by not having my normal network of friends and family around me I had two major problems:

• When I needed a casual job done, I didn’t know where to look. Usually, if you don’t know a local gardener or electrician, you ask a friend or neighbour and get a personal recommendation. But what if you don’t have anyone to ask?
• I had a lot of skills to offer, and wanted work that I could fit in around my lifestyle – caring for my two small children and running the household. But where to start?

And so I came up with the idea of a community-based website, designed to supplement the personal recommendations you can’t always find, as well as providing a forum for casual workers to pick up work where and when they needed it.

Following a year of research and lots of advice from friends and experts, my partners and I are very excited to introduce myhelper – the only community-based website of its kind.

Part of our philosophy is to ‘give back’ to the community, and invite volunteers as well as paid workers to register. When you encourage communities to help each other, the benefits are infinite.
